Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine. It is now widely used by doctors and physiotherapists who are specially trained to incorporate safely Western and Chinese techniques and philosophy with beneficial results.
Acupuncture has been scientifically proven to work, by stimulating the brain to release the body’s own healing chemicals – endorphins. There are also other beneficial effects which are currently being researched.
The Chinese describe acupuncture as a way of balancing the flow of energy in our bodies which they call Qi (pronounced Chee).
New acupuncture patients often express a fear of needles. The needles we use are incredibly fine and gently inserted. Treatment is not painful. A difficult to describe ‘needle sensation’ is experienced which means the treatment is working well and patients also describe a feeling of well-being, relaxation and sometimes sleepiness!
We use disposable pre-sterilised needles, which are perfectly safe and we follow the strictest procedure.
NICE Guidance updated in April 2021 has added acupuncture for the management of Chronic Pain.
